So, when is the best time to visit Alicante?
If you ask us directly, our answer is clear.
June and September are probably the best months to enjoy Alicante.
And it is not just because the weather is excellent. These months offer almost everything we look for when we head out to sea.
During these months, you can expect:
- Pleasant temperatures.
- Plenty of sunshine.
- Inviting sea temperatures for swimming.
- Fewer visitors than in July and August.
- Quieter beaches and coves.
- Often favourable conditions for sailing.
- A relaxed atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
These are the months when we most enjoy showing our guests the coastline.
We can often reach a cove and find plenty of room to anchor, something that can be much more difficult during the height of summer.
That does not mean July and August are not worth visiting. They simply offer a different experience, with more activity, a livelier atmosphere and more people enjoying the coast.
Spring in Alicante (March, April and May)
Spring is one of the most underrated seasons to visit Alicante.
While many travellers immediately think of summer, the Costa Blanca offers longer days, mild temperatures and a quieter atmosphere during these months.
It is the perfect time to discover Alicante without the peak-season crowds.
March
March marks the end of winter and brings pleasant temperatures for exploring the city and its surroundings.
It is an ideal month to:
- Walk up to Santa Bárbara Castle.
- Explore the old town.
- Stroll along the seafront promenade.
- Enjoy the local food scene.
- Take day trips around the province.
The sea is still chilly for most people, but sunny days make outdoor activities enjoyable.
April
In April, the days grow longer, parks become greener and Alicante begins preparing for the peak season.
It is a great month to combine pleasant weather with a quieter atmosphere. It can also be a lovely time to discover Tabarca Island by boat before the summer crowds arrive.
If Easter falls in April, the city also hosts religious processions and cultural events that create a special atmosphere.
May
May is one of our favourite months to visit Alicante.
Temperatures invite you to spend more time outdoors, while some coves remain peaceful before the summer rush.
It also marks the beginning of a wonderful season for sailing. The Mediterranean starts to show off its deep blue colours, and boat trips can be enjoyed without the crowds of July and August.
Why do we love sailing in spring?
The coves are quieter, finding a suitable anchoring spot can be easier, and the whole experience feels more relaxed.
A boat trip in May or early June can be even more enjoyable than one in August: it is often less hot, there is more room to enjoy the sea, and the pace is much more leisurely.
Summer in Alicante (June, July and August)
Summer is the classic image of Alicante: lively beaches, seafront terraces and the Mediterranean at its most dazzling.
It is the busiest season of the year, although each month has its own character.
June
If we had to choose just one month to visit Alicante, it would probably be June. The sea becomes more inviting for swimming, the days are long, and visitor numbers have yet to reach the levels of July and August.
You can notice the difference out on the water: many coves are still relatively peaceful, and finding a suitable anchoring spot can be easier.
June is also home to Hogueras de San Juan, one of Alicante's most important festivals and an event of International Tourist Interest. The city fills with music, spectacular displays and celebrations.
If you are travelling during the festival, it is worth booking accommodation and activities well in advance.
What we love most about June:
- Pleasant temperatures.
- Inviting water for swimming.
- Long, sunny days.
- A great time for sailing and snorkelling.
July
July marks the beginning of peak season. Restaurants and beaches fill up, and the holiday atmosphere spreads throughout the city.
It is a fantastic month if you enjoy a lively destination, but it is worth planning ahead. Private boat trips can be in high demand, so booking early gives you more choice over dates and departure times.
If you are planning to visit the island, read our guide to things to do in Tabarca and plan your trip in advance.
August
August is usually the busiest month of the year. It is a great choice if you enjoy lively beaches, busy terraces and a vibrant atmosphere, but it may be less suitable if you prefer peace and quiet.
Out at sea, however, the experience can change completely. A boat trip allows you to leave the busiest beaches behind, anchor in a cove and enjoy a swim in clear water.
It is one of the reasons so many people choose to spend a day on a boat during their holiday.
Autumn in Alicante (September, October and November)
Autumn is an ideal time to enjoy Alicante without as many crowds.
The Mediterranean retains some of the warmth accumulated over summer, and temperatures often remain pleasant.
September
September competes with June for the title of best month to visit Alicante. The sea is still warm after summer, the weather is often pleasant, and visitor numbers begin to fall.
It is one of the best times to sail along the Costa Blanca. The coves become quieter again, and the light at sunset is particularly beautiful.
Why do we recommend September?
- Fewer visitors.
- Sea temperatures that are often still pleasant.
- Comfortable weather.
- A great time for snorkelling and boat trips.
October
October often surprises visitors in the best possible way. Sunny days and pleasant temperatures are still common, making it a wonderful month to explore coastal villages, enjoy local food and spend time outdoors.
If the weather is favourable, especially during the first few weeks, swimming may still be an option. The softer autumn light also makes the scenery particularly beautiful for photography.
November
November marks the end of the main beach season for many visitors, but Alicante retains its charm. The city becomes quieter, and walks along the seafront take on a different appeal.
It is a good time to explore the coast, discover local towns and enjoy the regional food scene without the summer crowds.
Winter in Alicante (December, January and February)
Winter has a special charm in Alicante. Temperatures are generally mild compared with much of Europe, and sunny days still make it possible to enjoy the city outdoors.
It is a lovely season to discover a quieter, more authentic side of Alicante.
December
Christmas fills Alicante with festive lights, markets and a welcoming atmosphere. Walking along the Explanada de España, exploring the old town or stopping for a drink by the marina are all lovely ways to spend a sunny winter's day.
Although the sea is usually too cold for most people to swim comfortably, December is a great time to explore the city and enjoy its food scene at a more relaxed pace.
January
January is generally one of the quietest months. The beaches have fewer visitors, and the city returns to a more relaxed rhythm.
It is a good time to avoid the crowds, experience Alicante more like a local and enjoy the light over the Mediterranean.
February
In February, the days begin to get longer and the first signs of spring start to appear.
Although it is still too cold for most people to swim comfortably, it is a good time to explore the province, discover coastal villages and enjoy views of the sea from land.
Alicante's major events
If you are planning your trip, it is worth keeping a few important dates in mind.

2. Easter
Religious processions wind through the historic centre, offering a different way to experience the city's culture and traditions.
Even if you are not travelling for religious reasons, the atmosphere is well worth experiencing.
3. Christmas
Festive lights, Christmas markets and mild weather make Alicante an appealing destination even in winter.
